Bernard was raised in New York and California, and is most recently from Racine, Wisconsin where he was in group practice and as solo family physician for a total of 3 1/2 years. He and his wife, Melody, have 4 children. Besides being a devoted husband and father, he writes software, enjoys woodworking and building 'gadgets'.

His professional interests include the spectrum of family medicine (except obstetrics). With his extensive background in computers, he has a keen interest in medical informatics.
